4 Signs that you should be a DJ
Your record collection is taking over the spare room, and your iPod is constantly glued to your ears, it’s safe to say you have a slight obsession with music. Have you ever thought that maybe you could have found your true calling in life? Here are 5 signs that you should be a DJ:
- When you move house, the first thing you do is set up your music system: The removal men haven’t even finished unpacking the van yet but you’ve already sought out the boxes containing your music equipment and got some tunes pumping out for everyone! You live your life with a soundtrack and couldn’t imagine doing anything, even moving house, without your favourite songs to keep you going.
- You can’t just let the music play: Most people are quite happy to sit back and enjoy music in its original state. You, on the other hand, will be up there fiddling with the volume, bass and treble. You’re rearranging the playlist, shuffling tunes, and plotting a path through your listening experience rather than allowing a pre-arranged order to do it for you. DJs manipulate and programme music, building suspense and working the crowd.
- You recognise where a song gets influence from: If you find yourself listening to new music and instantly relating to something that sounds familiar then it’s clear you’ve got a deep connection with music. Good DJs make musical links and can recognise where certain artists have got their inspiration from, meaning you can blend tracks and create great mashups.
- You retreat into music when it all gets too much: At times of stress, when you just need to get away from it all, you retreat straight into your music. You need to hear that tune that just gets how you’re feeling, and you instantly know the perfect songs and artists to listen to. A good DJ knows the effect that music has on people’s moods, and knows how to pick a crowd up and get a party going!
